Senior Equipment Development Engineer

Reporting Line: Position reports to the Platform Development & Controls Manager

Job Purpose

The primary function of this new position is to support the design, procurement, and testing of new equipment platforms in accordance with the needs of Operations. This position reports directly to the Platform Development Manager. This position is based in Transitions Optical Limited (TOL) in Tuam, Co. Galway, Ireland.

The Sr. Equipment Development Engineer will work as a key member of Global Engineering team. The primary responsibility of this role will be to support new process and platform development activity focused around R&D and Operations equipment implementation

Key Responsibilities of the Role
This role includes, but is not limited to, the following functions:

·         Support the deployment of efforts associated with disruptive technologies

·         Act as project manager for small to large expense/capital projects, including key strategic projects

·         Direct technical resources for the build and testing of new designs

·         Detailed design of parts and assemblies for fabrication

·         Oversee projects through all procurement phases including specification, conceptual design, vendor/build management, functional acceptance, installation, and equipment validation

·         Establish and build working relationships with equipment vendors and integrators globally. Ensure all new equipment conforms to Transitions’ EH&S standards and promotes a safe work environment.

·         Perform and/or support test work as required to characterize, optimize, and validate processes

·         Compose detailed equipment specifications based on process requirements

·         Ensure equipment is documented appropriately in EPDM

·         Troubleshoot/consult as needed for Global Engineering equipment deployments at other facilities

·         Stay up to date with current production improvements and design according to best practices

·         Stay abreast of industry trends and new technology in automation and machine design

Key Requirements (Education and Experience)
·         BSME, BSEE, or equivalent engineering degree with at least 7 years of experience in manufacturing, engineering or related technical positions

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in project management
    Desired 3+ year’s industry experience with machining practices and techniques (multi-axis CNC mill, lathe, etc.
  • Desired 3-5 years of experience in prototyping and/or automation design
  • In-depth knowledge of SolidWorks 3D modelling, AutoCad, MS Office suite
  • Demonstrated ability to transform concepts into practical designs
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and projects as targets change
  • Ability to interface effectively and build relationships within all levels of TOL technical organization
  • Create and maintain technical documentation
  • Desire to learn and apply new processes and techniques
  • The desire to seek out the simplest effective solutions
  • Other related duties as required by the business
