Position

The successful candidate will be based in the Cork office and will report to the Technical Director. You will be required to work with the existing team to deliver projects successfully for clients and ByrneLooby in the areas of flood risk management and drainage by taking full ownership of all hydrological deliverables. You will have a team working with you and will be expected to manage the workload of other engineers as well as delivering modelling work.

Ideally, the successful candidate will be capable of taking responsibility for the quality and financial management of projects and must ensure that all projects are delivered in accordance with ByrneLooby policies and procedures on safety, health, environment and quality. Your soft skills and client management capability must be excellent. You will be required to support business development including preparation of tender submissions.

This role requires the successful Candidate to be eager and able to contribute and manage where possible the delivery of a number of projects for the ByrneLooby Cork Office. The Candidate will be assisted by the project team and will be supported by senior management to deliver projects, particular the following appointment.

Requirements

  • Experience of working on flood risk management assessment and the capital delivery of flood relief schemes.
  • Track record in delivering projects.
  • Track record in managing small teams.
  • General design experience (general arrangement) of flood defenses and drainage networks.
  • Considerable proven experience and understanding of hydrological processes to include:
  • Reviewing existing data and synthesising large data into short technical summaries
  • Historic flood Data Analysis
  • Hydrometric Data assessments (rating curve derivation/analysis)
  • Catchment Boundary Estimation
  • Estimation of Design Flood Event Parameters – Flood Flow estimation using FSU, FSR, IH124, FEH etc to include pooling analysis.
  • Joint probability analysis between rivers, drainage networks and tidal influences)
  • Climate Change assessments
  • Use of GIS software and data management.
  • Project Management skill to include contract administration of large and small scale projects for public clients.
  • Knowledge of the Public Works Contracts for main works and site investigation is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of local legislation with respect to environmental issues and its application is a considerable benefit.
  • Strong background in the design management of all aspects of health & safety desired
  • Structured training on a design safety course is preferable

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Honours degree qualified in Civil Engineering field (QII Level 8 minimum, Level 9 preferred).
  • 7 years post-graduate experience with at least 5 in the flood risk management/drainage discipline (candidates that demonstrate exceptional ability with less experience may be considered).
  • Chartered status or equivalent qualification.
  • Holders of the post will require a current driver’s licence for Class B vehicles.

  • Working as a member of a project team to deliver quality services to Clients.
  • Reviewing the works of others and ensuring a quality product is delivered to the client.
  • The successful individual must be able to work to tight deadlines within a Quality Management System.
  • Management of projects within time, cost and quality constraints and standards.
  • Champions and promotes professional advice, guidance and support across the business.
  • Monitors and manages compliance and KPI’s.
  • Business development including the preparation of tender submissions.
  • Estimating, pricing and delivering against work targets.
