Description of Business Unit:
The Strategy and Architecture team is part of the Group Technology & Customer Solutions (GTCS) division of Bank of Ireland. Our purpose is to align IT and business strategies, guide strategy execution, optimise technology investment and influence business strategies through the lens of being commercially and technically executable.
Purpose of the Role
The Lead Data Architect is the accountable, governing architect that recommends and implements the architecture roadmap for the data domain within Bank of Ireland, ensuring that the estate migrates over time to the target architecture and aligns with business and technology strategies.
The Lead Data Architect is accountable for:
- Developing the architectures, roadmaps, standards, and principles for data (particularly Customer, Product and Credit Risk data), reference data and metadata across the enterprise
- Development of data analytics strategies and roadmaps for different areas of the bank, taking ownership for defining associated technology standards and principles
- Take a lead role on the creation of an Operational Data Store demonstrating Cloud technologies to further augment the existing data and analytics infrastructure in the Group
- Working closely with the Chief Data Office, continue to promote strategies and architectures that utilise strategic data assets such as the EDW and EDL
- Share domain expertise on data modelling, analytics and design with architecture and project colleagues
- Monitor and report on the implementation of data roadmaps through the collection and analysis of architecture metrics

As Lead Data Architect, you will create and develop relationships across business and IT to ensure that data architectures proposed are aligned to the business need, are fit for purpose, and will provide value for the investments made.
You will be expected to use tailored communication techniques to share strategy, roadmap, landscape knowledge, challenges, options and complex technical concepts with our partners.
The Lead Data Architect will demonstrate accountability, showing full support for leadership teams and act as an ambassador for IT, influencing partners, colleagues and peers.

Essential Qualifications
3rd level degree in similar subject area or equivalent experience
Essential Skills / Experience
- 10 years+ and consistent record in data architecture and design
- Minimum of 10 years and proven track record in data modelling, analytics, ETL and data streaming
- Proven track record for designing and implementing both SQL and NOSQL architectures and technologies (Oracle; Teradata; MongoDB; Hbase, HIVE etc) both on-prem and on Cloud (AWS)
- Knowledge of standard methodology information/data governance
- Proven abilities in visioning and high-level solution capabilities
Desirable Skills / Experience
- Degree or Diploma in Computer Science or similar
- API architecture/design experience would be helpful
- Experience in Kafka implementation for event/data streaming
- Ability to work with deep-dive technical SME’s as well as non-technical business analysts
- Pragmatic and structured approach
- Ability to listen, interpret, connect with and influence partners
