Job Description

The role of the Carbon Reporting Lead, reporting to the Head of Sustainability, is to work as part of the Group Sustainability Team, driving the climate and decarbonisation agenda across the whole of the daa group. The team members work as subject matter experts on environmental and sustainability matters relevant across the group. This is carried out in a collaborative advisory manner, to highlight and address sustainability challenges that affect the business, ensuring a path towards full decarbonisation and ultimately net zero operations. The purpose of this role is to:

 

  • Manage the collection, analysis and setting of carbon related data and performance indicators from across the organisation and interpret these for use by senior leaders and other key stakeholders to inform decision making.
  • Develop a reporting approach, relevant to public sector businesses and the aviation industry, that demonstrates leaderships on sustainability and decarbonisation.
  • Manage the process to achieve Airport Carbon Accreditation scheme, to Level 4+, in addition to other relevant sustainability and carbon reporting frameworks and standards identified.
  • Work as part of the Group sustainability team to track and highlight national and international climate and sustainability regulations and trends and to identify and communicate related risks and opportunities across the business.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of an effective sustainability plan and strategy for daa group.
  • Manage key partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

 

This role will be awarded on a personal contract basis

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Leadership in Environmental Sustainability

  • Put in place a comprehensive system to track and communicate climate and sustainability regulations and trends and communicate related risks and opportunities across the business.
  • Play a key role in the team as we develop an ambitious sustainability plan and strategy for daa group to meet national climate targets, and stated corporate goals.
  • Identify relevant opportunities to achieve and accelerate our corporate decarbonisation goals.
  • Manage key partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including representation on relevant sustainability committees, and management of working groups.
  • Communicate the organisational goals and achievements, internally and externally.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on decarbonisation, carbon management and reporting.

 

Management of Carbon Data

  • Evaluate proposed developments relating to infrastructure, equipment, process and procedural change, and identify relevant carbon KPIs and opportunities to gather sustainability data.
  • Develop approach to track carbon budgets and data, in compliance with all scopes identified as part of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
  • Manage relevant software / tools to track carbon across organisation.

 

Reporting

  • Prepare information to report on decarbonisation, mandatory and voluntary reporting standards to Senior Management and the Board Sub-Committee in relation to performance at both Dublin and Cork airports.
  • Manage Airport Carbon Accreditation process, including maintenance audits and projects to level up.
  • Track additional reporting requirements relevant to the company and communicate these to team, senior leaders and other stakeholders.
  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate reporting frameworks for implementation by organisation.

 

Other areas

  • Identify opportunities to reduce Scope 3 emissions and embodied carbon.
  • Identify potential sustainability risks and issues and provide effective solutions to mitigate these risks.
  • Advise on relevant approach to climate change adaptation

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Recognised Third level degree in Science/ Environmental/Engineering / Accountancy or Economics
  • Postgraduate qualification in sustainability or related areas desirable
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in carbon management, reduction, policy or budgeting.
  • Previous experience in carbon data management.
  • Strong familiarity with key legislation trends and issues related to sustainability, decarbonisation or environment in Ireland/EU.
  • Proven ability to interpret applicable legislation and develop appropriate policy and / or procedures to demonstrate compliance in coordination with the business.
  • Subject matter expertise in environmental sustainability, carbon and environmental reporting or carbon accounting.
  • Experience managing complex projects in multi stakeholder environments.
  • Previous experience or knowledge of using carbon/emissions foot printing tools desirable.
  • Strong communication – both verbal and written
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating cross functionally with colleagues across the organisation.
  • Track record of delivery on carbon and sustainability projects.
  • Strong influencing skills and stakeholder management experience (internal and external) are desirable.
  • Time and Project management skills.
  • Analytical skills – including data analysis – is desirable.
