Transitions Optical was established in 1990. They were the first company to commercialise and manufacture plastic photochromic lenses. Also called adaptive lenses, they automatically darken when they are exposed to the sun’s ultraviolet light. When UV is no longer present, including indoors and at night, the lenses fade back to their original state.
